Def Jam is having an early release day

Island Def Jam must be feeling the squeeze of the recession because they have decided to push up the album release dates for not one, not two, but three of their major acts.

Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreak, Ludacris’ Theater of the Mind and the Killers’ Day & Age are the artists, and albums that are going to have an early release date of Monday November 24, 2008. Rather than the more traditional Tuesday release date, Def Jam chose to drop the albums just a day earlier than scheduled. This was done in an attempt to reach higher sales rates.

The Monday release of these albums will be both digital as well as physical releases. Def Jam may have the right idea here as all three of these albums are showing promising sales. Kanye West’s Love Lock Down hit number three on the Hot 100, Ludacris’ One More Drink Featuring T-Pain is at the number 34th spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs and the Killers’ Human is number six on the Billboard’s Modern Rock charts.
