LexiLex’s Daily Soap Dish Vol. 9: Guess Who’s Bizack, Kanye’s rubbing off on 50, and a bunch of other hoopla!

Guess who’s bizack!- If you’re Shawn Corey Carter, you just can’t leave the rap game alone – even at your billiondollar dollar status. That’s right ya’ll. If you’re fans of Hip-Hop legend, Jay-Z, you’ll have another opportunity to experience his reign on Nov. 6^th of this year. Now, it’s been rumored that Jigga has been back in the studio but the rumors have been confirmed that the rap mogul will be releasing his umpteenth album entitled American Gangster, which has been inspired by the upcoming film, American Gangster starring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, RZA, Common, and my baby daddy TI. (Ya’ll know that’s a loose joke right?) Recently, Jay-Z even went as far as doing an article for the NY Times speaking on his experience with this album. Here’s what he had to say: “It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story.” All I know is that I’m a fan of Hov, but I’m not exactly a fan of that Forbes Billionaire remix of “I Get Money”…. Yep, it’s true, ya’ll got money and gets plenty of it but that doesn’t give you the divine excuse to release bullshit like that and think it’s 100% acceptable. Sorry Charlies!

But, Jay-Z did also recently comment on Kanye’s lyrical ability on Ye’s Graduating closing track, Big Brother. “It makes me proud as someone who’s watched his growth from the beginning, when he came in as a hungry producer, to now he’s a rock star.” He went on to say, “It’s the best thing he’s written since Jesus Walks” – I love Big Brother but I wouldn’t say all that Hov! Ya know!

Kanye’s rubbing off on 50! – Well, although we all predicted this significant movement in Hip-Hop (the Kanye outselling 50 cent movements), it seems as though 50 has adopted crybaby like tendencies since he sheerly embarrassed himself thoroughly! 50’s has been previously been reported (as told here) to be accusing Def Jam of buying more of Kanye’s albums – child please! – and that the sales were tampered with. Although Jay-Z appears on 50’s wack remix to “I get money”, President Carter has stated, “I couldn’t do the track until after the first week; don’t want to contaminate sales,” but he did say that it’s all friendly competition. Nonetheless, 50 is now conceding in a more appropriate way by saying this: “I am very excited to have participated in one of the biggest album release weeks in the last two years. Collectively, we have sold hundreds of thousands of units in our debut week. This marks a great movement for Hip Hop Music one that will go down in history.” All I gotta say is: Kanye pulled this win off by himself. As of Tuesday, Soundscan has reported Kanye as selling 957,000 copies his first week in comparison to 50’s piss pour 691,000 copies. I have to laugh, even TI sold more than that his first week (not saying that TIP is wack but what is 50 going to say next? I can outsell TI?) – but ya know… just curious.

Other mishaps and foolishness – Rumor has it that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant with twins after having some fertility problems, if so, this would be husband Marc Anthony’s fourth and fifth child whereas these would be J-Lo’s first babes. If true, good luck momma!

Just last week, actress Gabrielle Union – whom I find it excruciating hard to like her (from her roles on film – I know that’s just her day job but she is just something extra for me, maybe one day I’ll see her on Oprah and decide that I like her but for now, I can’t separate the real Gabby from the big screen Gabby) was linked to having a relationship with actress/rapper Ludacris has now been linked to Hill Harper. This could be very well a rumor as well but hey, I just report the big stories as they break!

Lastly, we all love, respect, and admire Ms. Aretha Franklin, but my question is: with all that money and legacy that she possesses, why isn’t she taking care of herself? I saw the pictures from Diddy’s launch of Unforgivable Woman, and Aretha is just looking all around bad. I’m not suggesting plastic surgery, but can’t she consider at least a weight lost program. She’s been looking unhealthy for years. I mean at least, I know she can consider a decent wig, and a make-up artist and stylist when she’s stepping out for a major event like that? I mean just damn!

Black History – Today, In Jena, Louisiana thousands of protestors march to fight the Jena 6. Everyone in Black America was asked to wear all black (including me) to support the six blacks affected by this despicable act in 2007. Nonetheless, several Hip-Hop figures are said to be in effect from TI, Lil Wayne, and Mos Def – of course including Rev. Al Sharpton and other civil rights leaders. If you’re not familiar with Jena 6, please GOOGLE IT!

Also, Scratch Magazine announced that the DJ friendly magazine will no longer exist after this month’s issue…dang!! L
