No More Homophobic Reggae Lyrics?

Reggae stars Beenie Man, Sizzla and Capleton have vowed to refrain from writing anti-gay lyrics after signing a historic agreement to renounce homophobia. The artists, who have faced criticism in the past for penning controversial tracks inciting listeners to kill the gay community, have lent their name to the Reggae Compassionate Act – a new drive to “respect and uphold the rights of all individuals to live without violence due to their religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or genderâ€Â.
The deal, brokered between reggae promoters and Stop Murder Music activists, also states, “We (as artists) agree not to make statements or perform songs that incite hatred or violence against anyone from any communityâ€Â.
Wow being that I’m Jamaican and all, I will be the first to say that I never thought I’d see the day Reggae artist like the ones mentioned above do something like this, I can understand everything in the music so I know how homophobic it is. It’s far more homophobic than Hip Hop and allot more violent towards gays, this is a big step my culture and my people I don’t think this will be happening anytime soon in Hip Hop though, only time will tell.
No More “Boom By By In a Batty Bwoy Head….Lol

I will agree to the ending of Homophobia myself and advocate that others do so as soon as society ceases to be thiefophobic, murderophobic, terroristophobic, pediphileophobic etc. We need to protect our society for the dangerous, the unhygenic, the rebellios and the immoral not glorify it as though we are bewitched.
