Common and Drake have been firing shots at one another over the past few weeks, and many people have assumed it’s over Drizzy hanging out with his ex-girlfriend Serena Williams, but Com says that’s not it.

“Well, the song ‘Sweet,’ for me, was a song where I was really talking about Hip Hop. A lot of the softer side of Hip Hop is just being the example of what people think Hip Hop is. To me, you can express yourself in many different ways, but I was just missing that hardcore Hip Hop, that raw Hip Hop sound, and I was just talking about it.”

“I was saying, man, the song ‘Sweet’ was cats out there doing sweet music. Dude must have took offense to it, so he came out and said some things, and once he said something on record, I said something on record.”

Common said that he didn’t intend to specifically diss Drake, but once he responded in concert, that was it.

“That was the first thing that he responded and said something. I was like, well, I wasn’t trying to address you specifically, but if you feel like you are that person and if you’re addressing this to me, then I have to address you back,” he continued. “But my whole mentality was that I’m doing this for Hip Hop music. I’m not trying to bring somebody down. At the end of the day, I just expressed what I felt about Hip Hop. And I’ma keep it on that level, just as an emcee. That’s how I battle. I don’t try to battle any other way than emceeing.”

Common insists that Serena has nothing to do with the beef.

“We know that things can get like that, but that’s not what we want for the culture, for ourselves as men. I think we learned enough from those days to be like, OK, if you’re going to challenge me as an artist, an emcee, I’ma let you know who I am.

You just gotta know what you in it for. I got in this because it’s Hip Hop. I was speaking up on the song ‘Sweet’ about, over and over we’re hearing a lot of singing. I listen to R&B, I listen to good R&B and soul music, so I’m not opposed to singing. I’ma be frank about that. But I just spoke up for the art of Hip Hop and what I feel about it, and I want everybody to know that Hip Hop is a diverse culture and it does have that boom bap to it too. Once he said something back, that’s when I said, aight, I guess you want to get in a battle with me. And if that’s what you want, then I’ll battle.”

Do you believe Serena Williams has nothing to do with the beef? I don’t don’t, I just think Common put Sweet on the hook and Drake took the bait for whatever insecure reason.

On the last track on the tape, Fab tears down Drake’s Lord Knows beat, on which he had a little slick line that takes at a shot at the beginning of Drake’s verse, where Drizzy talks about going in a girl’s purse.

The beef between Drake and Common started when Common fired subtle shots at “singin’ ass rappers” on his track “Sweet” off his The Dreamer/The Believer album. Common was asked who the song is directed at, and he says “Whoever the shoe fits.”

Most are saying the shoe perfectly fits Drake, who decided to speak out about Common’s jabs at a recent Las Vegas concert. “I might sing, but I ain’t no bitch. If Common got something to say, say it to my face.” Do you think anything will result of this beef?

Here’s one of the missing tracks called “Hate Sleeping Alone” off last week’s Dake – Take Care album leak, along with The Ride. This’ll be an iTunes bonus track.

Fans may be disappointed to hear that Drake and Lil Wayne have decided to scrap their highly anticipated collaboration album. Their reason for scraping the deal, as Drake explained to XXL, was because they felt fans would compare it to Watch the Throne, and not take it for it’s own artistic merit.

“Me and Wayne scrapped the idea of a collaboration album. We just agreed that it would be looked upon as…It would be sort of this competition [with Watch The Throne]. I feel like it would get caught in this whirlwind of hype. [Wayne] agreed. We just said, ‘If we do it, we’ll do it down the line. But right now is not the time.’”

Smart move, because that “Watch The Throne” album turned out to be something quite special; and if they were to put out something this close to that album’s release and it didn’t deliver, they would never hear the end of it.

Drake recently told XXL that he’s been putting in work on a new joint mixtape with Rick Ross, called Y.O.L.O. – short for “You Only Live Once”. Rick Ross mentions it at the beginning of his “Lord Knows” verse and that was later also the inspiration for the Take Care bonus track with Wayne.

“I have been working on a mixtape with Ross,” Drake said. “A mixtape called Y.O.L.O. [That means] ‘You Only Live Once’. I’ve been working on that for the last couple of weeks. We haven’t really connected because he’s been going through this thing with his health. I’ve been stashing my little beats and verses.”

Drake says there is no release date for the tape as of yet and if it were up to him, the project will drop without a lot of pre-hype or warning; he wants to make it a surprise for the fans.

Drake also said that he’ll be on Rick Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t.

Drake premiered his new record “Crew Love” with The Weeknd on Toronto’s Flow 93.5. Take Care drops next Tuesday.

Those waiting for Drake’s Take Care to drop on October 24th will be a little disappointed to know the album has been pushed back to November 15th. Drake explained that he’s waiting to release the album, because he’s waiting on three samples to include on the album.

“I have completed 19 songs (17 on physical and 2 on bonus), and have run into a roadblock of clearing 3 samples in time to make the October 24th date. My options were to take the songs off and make the birthday release happen, or to take an extra couple weeks to get the paper work right and give you the album they way I NEED you to hear it. The choice was clear as day for me. November 15th you will get Take Care the exact way I created it with no trimmings.”

Drake lends a verse to K-OS’ single “Faith Pt 2″ produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, Drake murk-ed this one.

Feels like it’s been so long. Is life moving so fast in this generation that when we desire something it begins to move in slow motion? Are we just used to getting what we want right away? Or do we require one another to feel right about all that is going on around us? Maybe our anticipation is justified by the fact that we genuinely cannot wait to share a moment again? Oh man super super late pass on this one, what am I like 5 days late on this “All Of The Lights” remix? I was holding off from posting it because this is not the full version, this one only has verses from Lil Wayne, Big Sean & Drake but the complete version is supposed to have more featured on it, namely Kanye West himself. The full version never showed up and I just forgot I didn’t post it.

Anyways here it is now, so leave your thoughts especially on that Drake verse. Did it sound like that type of flow was a bit of a stretch for him?

Rihanna sure has a thing for athletics. First, she dates L.A. Dodger baseball player Matt Kemp and now she’s holding down the halftime show at the NBA All-Star game. Rocking a massive ruby red ponytail, Rihanna performed a medley of hits, starting out with “Umbrella,” then moving on to “Only Girl,” “Rude Boy,” “What’s My Name?” and “All of the Lights” featuring none other than Mr. Kanye West.Rihanna’s vocals were at times, slightly off. She seemed to fare the best on “What’s My Name.” The song had her voice in a comfortable pocket. Then again, the sound quality was subpar for the whole halftime show. But at the least, Rihanna showed she was committed to putting on a show and her choreography and dance moves were much appreciated. She just needs to keep up her intensity while dancing.Speaking of intense, how about that Kanye West?! He entered the halftime show in a billow of smoke to the triumphant horns of “All of the Lights” in a red jacket and metallic red jeans. The Red Ranger was ready to rock! Now if only he’d announce a tour.But Kanye wasn’t the only guest during RiRi’s set, though he certainly was the grandest. Drake also emerged from the crowd for a flirt action between him and Rihanna on “What’s My Name.” At this point, it’s not clear who Drake prefers to stoke relationship rumors with more: Nicki Minaj or Rihanna. Though Drizzy’s ideal would likely be to bed both.

That’s the next project.” ”Moment 4 Life” is the first music video shot in a string of music videos to be released for promotion. In an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Minaj revealed that Roman Zolanski’s mother, Martha Zolanski, will make a physical debut in the music video. In an interview with MTV news, Minaj discussed the marriage concept of the music video between her and her label-mate Drake, stating “Obviously, Drake and I, we’ve played around so much with the whole marriage thing and stuff like that, so people have come to be kind of intrigued about us and it’s where we’re shooting the video together. So I was like, there has to be some sort of romantic storyline. It’s Drake and me.” Drake additionally added “I mean, it’s a fantasy video. You’ve got a very regal environment, and you’ve got Nicki doing what she does—big outfits, big everything. Yeah, I love that girl, man. I’m not going to lie to you. The twist of it, the concept of it, I don’t want to give it all away.

Drake originally wrote this track for an RnB mixtape titled “It’s Never Enough”. However after the success of Thank Me Later that project was put on hold and the song was given to Jeremih.

The Cop of all Cops has a new project called God Forgives, I Don’t in the works, this is the first single “Made Men” featuring Drake. The beat is cool but Rick Ross has that same MC Hammer flow he’s been using on every track lately, hopefully this is just a street single and not the official one because It doesn’t really sound like anything special, even Drake had a little MC Hammer flow on this one. Some of might have already heard this if you listened to Rick Ross’ new mixtape Ashes To Ashes.

Oh and you know I couldn’t start the new year without a shot at Ross, at the same time though shout out to Maybach Music Group Management, they cool people.

Drake joined YN on The Morning Show on Shade 45 to talk about the Thank Me Later Reviews, laying off the R&B and rapping more on Take Care, his friendship with J. Cole, The Grammy’s, Lil Wayne, Kanye West removing him from the final version of “All Of The Lights” and working with Q-Ttip.

A new one from T.I. titled “Poppin’ Bottles” featuring Drake, the song is produced by T-Minus who was also behind Nicki Minaj’s Moment 4 Life.

Drake who’s one of the five 2010 GQ Men Of The Year reveals to the new issue of GQ that the name of his sophomore effort is called Take Care. For the moment, he’s only mentioned working with 40, but 9th Wonder is also supposed to produce on this album and he’s trying to collaborate with Justin Timberlake.

Another one from the best female rapper alive (yeah I said it again) Nicki Minaj titled “Moment 4 Life” feature her musical husband Drake, Pink Friday is due out November 22nd.

We’ve all anticipated a J. Cole and Drake track and now we have one, It’s J. Cole’s track featuring Drake and it called “In The Morning.” I can already see people getting ready to debate about who had the better verse but it’s not that type of track. We’ll have to save the comparisons for another collaboration, in the mean time just go ahead and throw this one on the iPod.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but Drake sings better than Jamie Foxx, well at least when comes to the “Fall For Your Type” track. I think Jamie wasn’t singing the way he usually does, he was trying to give the track a Drake sound but then again we might have all thought differently if we never heard Drake’s version. Why do people always make comparisons between Drake & J. Cole when there so different? Maybe it’s for that very reason, because they represent two opposite sides of the Hip Hop spectrum the way Nas & Jay did. We constantly compared them until they inevitably went at it and it was epic.

Here’s what J. Cole had to say about the comparison.

“From a fan’s point of view, who are you going to get excited about to battle? I feel like that’s why people push the J.Cole/Drake thing so much, ‘cause I think we’re probably the first two artists that fans are super excited about. The two that they would like to see go at it. I don’t blame ‘em. But it’s just a sign of the times. Rap goes in cycles. I’m not promoting that, but I’m a competitive person in general, so I’m a fan of people throwing jabs and shots. That motivates me.”

Will it happen? I doubt it, but then again this is Hip Hop and I’m never surprised when the unexpected happens. It would have to be a legit battle though, nothing like these so called “beef” fuckry these cats have been doing these days. Most people would go with J. Cole because they feel bar for bar he’s superior to Drake but I’ve heard Drake battle in his early days (before the singing) and won, he’s pretty clever when he battles. J. Cole though lyrical has no battle track record that I know of and being a good lyricist doesn’t make you a good battle rapper.

So according to the official numbers from Soundscan Drake moved 447,000 his first week which T.I. was close to with his prediction. I expected those numbers judging from the fact that his album did leak a month before it’s release but on the flip side I was also prepared for him to do some crazy numbers like a million his first week due to his dedicated fan base. There’s also the fact that the album release took too long, last year when he had a more organic buzz similar to what 50 Cent had in 2003 but not as big would have been the perfect time to drop that album and I feel the numbers would have been double what they are now. There’s a thin line between buzz and saturation, you could be 2 songs from not being hot enough or 2 past being the guy that when people hear you they go “oh not this guy again”.

Through out this year Drake started to become that “not this guy again” artist and that’s because there was just so much of him out there from radio hits to mixtape leaks and everything in-between. It’s not like 7 years ago when the radio mostly dictated what we heard and when we heard it and you received the content in moderation instead oft all at once like the Internet does. 447,000 copies for first week sales is great by any standard though  especially for a debut album and it will certainly go platinum. But since Drake represented this change in the game that would give birth to the new generation of rappers and a new business model for the music industry, when he signed to a major many felt he dropped the ball because he didn’t need a major to do these numbers, hence why he said “Never dropped the ball, fuck was y’all thinking” of his Over single.

Drake has already gone the major label route so there is no new business model and of course Drake didn’t want to risk failing going that route, how many of you facing a record deal with a 2 million bonus would leave that on the table to go independent? That’s what I thought. Drake will not be the guy to change the direction of the industry and the way the business operates but he has changed the climate of the type of music artists are making. We were all tired of hearing every single artist talking about drugs, guns and bitches and about your past gangster life before rap when it’s all bullshit, come on every artist lived that life? Nah we not drinking that cool aid. So you can thank Drake for that now,  but I guarantee you there’s a rapper out there somewhere working diligently on his music, moderately leaking tracks on the web that will change the music industry and he’ll do it in the next three years.

At the end of the day Drake has a solid album out and he’s talented enough to stick around for years to come and I expect more great music from him. But we’ll have to hold off on that change in the game that we’re all waiting on, one thing is for certain those 360 record deals these labels are handing out now won’t be the future of anything, if your an artist signing those deals you might as well just go to gay bar, bend over and let a hundred gays rape you because that’s exactly what that deal will be like. That’s not a music career that’s a day job….
