The latest episode of the Pitchfork.tv series “Selector” is pretty special. In a deviated from the usual “Selector” formula (in which rappers choose from two beats produced by indie artists for a freestyle backing track), we brought Dipset MC Jim Jones and mashup maestro Girl Talk together in Jones’ Nomad District studio. Together, they created a new track: “Believe in Magic”, produced by Girl Talk using a sample of 1970s soul group Honey Cone’s “Want Ads” and freestyled by Jones. Jones liked the results much that he brought in R&B crooner Lloyd to contribute a hook and plans to release it as a single in the near future.

Clinton Sparks & DJ Snake put a ill club spin on Jim Jones’ “Perfect Day” single, I can definitely picture this one poppin off in the Dance clubs. Shout Jimmy for making different type of record other than his usual sound, the Capo album is due out April 5.

A pretty blatant recasting of the Black Eyed Peas’ world-ruining “I Gotta Feelin’” (which has been watched 70 million times on YouTube) replete with autotune and not-very-good rapping that takes cues from Ice Cube’s “Today Was a Good Day,” Jones song has something about it, something I can’t quite put my finger on, that I like. Maybe it’s how gentle and friendly he sounds? Or maybe it’s the video, which is totally confusing and all-the-over-the-place. (A perfect day is spent visiting an old woman dying in a hospital? Or even stranger, providing medical treatment? I’m pretty sure this is the world’s first depiction of a rapping oncologist.) But still, in the end, it is somehow actually engendering of honest good feeling. Maybe it’s the fact Jim delivers his chorus in sign-language. Or that the video is dedicated to Jim’s aunt, Sally Jones, along with anyone else who has been affected by cancer. And to the United States soldiers overseas. And also to anyone with a hearing disability! This might be the greatest casting of a wide-net shout-out since ODB showed love to Suge Knight, Eskimos, the babies and schoolteachers, among others, at the end of “I Can’t Wait” (which is strangely not available in its original form on YouTube.) And so in Jones’ spirit, here’s wishing everybody a perfect weekend. It sure is nice outside.

OK so this “Feel Free” track by Ricky Blaze is actually 2 years old, we posted it back in March of 2009 and back then it featured Ron Browz, Red Cafe and Nicki Minaj who killed her verse by the way. It was also featured on her break out mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty. The new (not necessarily improved) 2010 version now features Jim Jones and Nicki Minaj with the same verse from the original.

Keeping Nicki’s verse was a good idea since she’s now the hottest female rapper on the planet but the original track was way better. I posted both versions below so check them out and let me know.

Not really that competitive, because the competition isn’t based on real competition. I mean, Game, I’m his fuckin idol. If you ask him and he’s being truthfully honest with you…it’s just based off his insecurities and, for the most part, pretension. That type of competition doesn’t do anything for me. It’s almost like someone trying to set you up, and everyone knows they’re to set you up, and everybody. It’s just dumb. It’s not in the spirit of competition, because he’s not competition for me. He’s not. Not then, not ever—he’d have to improve considerably. Competition for me competition is Nas, Eminem. Like Jim Jones? That’s ridiculous to me. So how do I respond to that? I can’t win. If I win, then they’ll be like, “See. Now chill. You’re a fuckin’ bully.” And if manages to throw a haymaker from the West Coast, then it’s like “Oooooh.” It’s not even fun. Like, before I did it, because I would diss anybody. Now who has time to do this shit everyday? But before, when I was running after the little fat nigga from Ma$e’s camp, I was doing anybody. Anybody said anything. If I thought you said something. When I was running in the streets, I wanted all that type of activity. Nobody wanted nothing. Now everybody’s a tough guy.

Agree 100 percent, anybody ever notice the only time Jim Jones is relevant is when he’s talking about Jay-Z? Just look at all any future headline or listen to any upcoming track, I bullshit you not. The full Interview will be in this month’s XXL magazine.
